TESTING PROGRAMS Standardized testing is completed according to Diocesan guidelines. Students in grades 2-8 participate in the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills each fall. Students in grades 3, 5 and 7 also have group ability assessments at that time. The National Catholic Education Association ACRE Religion Assessment is completed in January by grades 5 and 8. A Diocesan accepted standardized writing assessment is completed by grades 4 and 7 in February. REPORT CARDS Report cards are issued four times each year. FIELD TRIPS When it better serves the educational purpose, a teacher may request that his/her particular class be allowed to go on a field trip. As it would follow the Diocesan Guidelines and the purpose of the objectives being taught, this would be allowed. Students are to be aware that any field trip or school trip sponsored by the school will be for educational purposes and that it is a privilege to be able to attend, not a right. "All school trips (e.g. filed trips, class trips, etc.) shall have an educational purpose stated in writing and on file in the school office. Permission forms including the educational purpose and parent signatures shall be required for students to attend any trip and shall be kept on file in the school office." (D-131, P-CDOP, 1/03) PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES Parent-teacher conferences will be officially held at least once per academic year. A parent or teacher may request a conference at any point in the school year and schedule at a mutually convenient time. HONOR ROLL Honor roll will be calculated for grades 4-8 at the conclusion of each quarter. High Honors: the student will have a quarterly grade point average of 3.75 or higher in all major subjects. A GRADE OF C OR BELOW IN ANY SUBJECT WILL DISQUALIFY THE STUDENT. A mark of NI (needs improvement) in any area will disqualify the student. In ungraded subjects, the student will receive an "S" (satisfactory) or above. Honors: the student will have a quarterly grade point average of 3.25 or higher in all major subjects. DIOCESAN GRADING SCALE A = 94-100 B = 86-93 C = 76-85 D = 68-75 F = below 68 HOMEWORK Homework is a tool used to reinforce teacher instruction. Repetition is integral to enhance the learning process. All students can expect some homework in any given week. Suggested guidelines are as follows: Grades 1 - 3 20-30 minutes two to three days a week (This might be practicing basic Math skills or reading a storybook.) Grades 4 - 6 30-60 minutes per day Grades 7 - 8 60-90 minutes per day Again, Holy Family School’s goal is to gain optimum potential from each child. Homework utilized properly should help attain this goal. If problems or extreme frustrations are common with a child’s homework assignments, please contact the teacher. PARENT NOTIFICATION Parents will be notified by a progress note, weekly grade sheets (grades 4-8), or verbal communication when their child is not maintaining average (C) work, or a significant change in classroom work is noted. Mid-quarter Progress Reports will be sent home (via the student or in conjunction with a regularly scheduled General Home and School Association meeting) for grades K-8. |
